Read before buying

I loved it. It does NOT come with the lens like specified so you are going to have to get an e-mount lens to be able to use the camera. Apart from that the camera looks in great conditions.

Olympus XZ-2 vs. Nikon D7000 and Canon G1X

Hello everyone, I was on a trip in Kobe, Japan recently when I saw this Olympus XZ-2 in one of the stores. Being a long-time Nikon/Canon person and looking for a pocketable camera, I decided to give Olympus a try and bought the XZ-2 with the optional automatic lens cap. I used this camera extensively during my trip and I wanted to share my experiences.I'm no pro photographer - I just love taking pictures. Some of the gear I had in the past are Canon XSI with the kit lens, Canon 50D, and several Canon point-and-shoots including Canon S95. Some lenses I had were Canon 50mm f/1.8, Canon 50mm f/1.4, Canon 24-70mm, Canon 24-105mm, Canon 70-300mm, and Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8. I recently switched to Nikon - currently I have a Nikon D7000, a Nikon 35mm f/1.8 lens, and a Nikon 16-85mm lens. As the usual story goes, I also wanted something small and light where I could take with me instead of my D7000, so I purchased a Canon G1X as well - hoping that it would destroy my S95 in the IQ department. The G1X turned out to be a bad experience for me. First, it's not really pocketable - it's apparently smaller than the D7000, but you cannot carry it inside a belt bag. Second, it does not have the usual Canon colors - there is something wrong with the G1X colors, it's just not pleasant. Third, the camera is slow, I mean really slow as an 80-year old grandma. Fourth, forget about macro - it's just not a G1X thing. And fifth, it has a slow zoom f/5.8 exactly on the tele end. The only thing G1X does really well is noise at high ISO - ISO 1600 pictures are virtually noise-free.Comparing the XZ-2 to G1X, XZ-2 is considerably smaller (though it has great ergonomics).Read more

This is an amazing piece of technology

This is an amazing piece of technology. I've had this camera for about a month now. It impresses me every time I use it. I had run into the limitations inherent in even the high end point and shoot cameras. I was seriously considering getting a DSLR and all the equipment that is needed with one. Before committing to that, though, I decided to look into the Bridge camera category. This camera will do everything for me that a full sized DSLR will do and far more conveniently. The quality of the pictures is unmatched in anything other than a DSLR. The light sensitivity is very good. I think the overall quality of the pictures and the light sensitivity and both due to the 1 MOS sensor. This is much bigger than anything else in the point and shoot class and is perhaps the most important hardware feature to look for in a camera. The sensor is where the image is captured and a larger sensor just captures more light, more detail, more color depth, more everything. The lens gives you an amazing 25-400mm optical range, with a digital enhancement out to an equivalent of 1600mm. Even though 1600mm is a digital zoom, the pictures are still quite useable because the source image is 20 mega pixels, so zooming in to a portion of that is still a good sized picture. The startup time is under a second so you can be ready to shoot much sooner. The burst setting of 8 frames/second at full resolution with constant focusing allows unprecedented flexibility for action shots. At lower resolutions, you can have burst speeds up to 50 frames/second.One week after purchasing this camera I entered pictures I had taken at the beach with this camera in a photo contest and won first prize in two different categories. I'm not a photographer......Well maybe I am now.

Fabulous camera for the money.

This is my second Kodak digital camera and like my old one I just love it. Flat out it takes some of the best pictures I've seen or taken for that matter. It's rich in features. From almost full manual PASM control to automatic point and shoot to multiple 'scene' settings for differing situations. Power up to first picture is quite quick. Shutter lag is quite small (no more missing those action shots!). The 10x optical zoom does lack stabilization but in good light and with a good shooting stance you won't generate much image shake. Macro photography is, as I've experienced in the past with my CX4230, exceptional although using the flash for extreme close-up work can generate shadows on the image due to the location of the flash unit. Natural light and no flash eliminate this problem. That all being said I do have some complaints The door covering the memory card slot feels flimsy and could easily be damaged or broken. The 'joystick' used for navigating the menus is small and hard to use for fumble fingered guys like me. It takes some getting used to and can slow you down changing modes or settings if you're in a hurry. The camera seems to have some trouble getting focus in low light (I like to shoot at the beach at sunrise) and the extremely bright and annoying green 'low light assist' lamp cannot be turned off even though the Kodak FAQ page for the Z650 says it can be. All in all though, this is a great camera! It's got some heft to it so it feels like a real camera and not a tourist toy. It comes with a (plastic) 55mm adapter which allows you to fit any number of filters to the camera, though the included lens cap will not attach to a standard 55mm filter. Speaking of the lens cap, it's the one true disappointment with this camera, it does not stay on very well at all.Read more

It Works As Well As Can Be Expected

The Camera works as well as I would expect it to , the only issue I have with it is that when it comes to the flash I receive a warning that states that the battery is too low for the flash to work even though there are fresh batteries in the camera.
